A PRETTY DIFFERENT WEEK...

Hey Dad,

This week was pretty different with exchanges, a funeral, and a baptism but you can read about that in my other email! The Baptism went great though and it was a great B-Day present!

Our shed hunt last week was gorgeous and I am going to be in awesome hiking shape if I keep it up haha! These guys hike some crazy crap. No offense but you would probably die. Do you remember that water tank we scouted out by Ruby where we climbed up that huge hill and saw the coati's? Well it is like that for 10 miles hahaha!!! Anyway it was very pretty and I wish you could have been here!

I have seen some big deer this week 2 - 4x4's already and some other big forky's and 3x3s! Glad you got put in for time for deer!! Let me know if you get drawn! If you draw a December tag while I am gone, I am going to be kinda sad that I wont be there! :(

The broadcast last night was very good. I hope it motivates the members and in return we get more referals! Teachiing 20 member-present lesson a week is nuts but would be so awesome!
Anyway I hope you have a great week!
Love you Dad,
Jake

Hey!!

So this week was pretty different. First things first, Elder Griffith got transfered to the Missoula Zone and my new companion is Elder Davis. Elder Davis has been one of the A.P.'s for the last 4.5 months and only has one transfer left. I hope I can learn a lot from him! He also served in Cody for 9 months!!! So he knows the area and the people here really well!!

So this week was shot! Monday was P-day and we went shed hunting all day! Tuesday we had district meeting until 12. Then we e-mailed and did a little shopping. Later that night we did exchanges with the Zone Leaders. Elder Griffith went to Powell until Friday and I stayed in Cody. On Thursday I got in a stupid car accident. I backed into a parked car because the elder who was backing me wasn't paying any attention and kept telling me to come back then when he realized I was going to hit a car he started pounding on the trunk but it was to late. It was only like 25% my fault since I was driving and honestly if I wouldn't have had a backer I wouldn't have hit the car because I would have been paying attention to what I was doing and not some kid that wasn't paying attention. I might get my driving privledges taken away but I'm not sure yet. (Enter parents eye rolls here!) Saturday morning we went to a funeral. Then we got everything ready for the Baptism which went great!! And yesterday church was pretty much all focused on Pioneers which was cool.

We attended the big broadcast which was great and will hopefully motivate the wards even more. Our ward mission leader, Brother Taggart, is already so awesome though and works real hard. He is going to take us out to lunch sometime this week with Brandon Davis from best of the west which will be sick! I think that is it for now!

I didn't get your package yet but mail hasn't come today so I am sure it will be here later today! Thank you so much! I hope you feel better Mom!!!

Love,
Elder Richardson

P.S. -  Elder Sagers forwarded these pictures to me.

A LETTER JUST FOR DAD...

(NO family letter this week. Jake only wrote to Scott - so here it is...)

Hey Dad!

I'm glad you liked your Fathers Day present! It wasn't much but it was all I had! lol. Did you put in for deer and if so what were your choices! It kills me to think I am going to miss another deer season but that is alright!

We did get to go shed hunting yesterday! Most the spots have been picked over really well and we only found one shed all day but I found it haha! It was a small 5 point. Although Elder Griffith did find an arrow head which was sweet! We saw some elk, deer and tons of pronghorn! Most of them have had their fawns and we even saw a couple sets of twins! Which was awesome. We also saw some big muleys!!! Some are already wider than their ears and are starting to fork again! I wish you could be here! Also one of the guys that took us yesterday is a big Fly Fisher so he fished the creek we hiked by for about an hour and I got to watch him! He caught about 10 fish! 9 cutthroats and 1 brown.

The work is still going pretty well nothing big happened this week which was a let down. We have a baptism this Saturday for K. C. that I'm pumped for! She has been doing awesome and is still on track. Other than that it has been a lot of less active work.

I have not met anyone whose son plays for the steelers. We pretty much are in Cody the whole time unless we have district meeting in Powell. Which is where we were all morning today.

I think that is it for now! I hope Mom feels better! Let her know I love her and am praying for her! I hope you have a great week!
-Jake

THE WORK IS PICKING UP...

Hey guys!!!

This week has been a good one. Things seem to be better between Elder Griffith and I and in turn the work has been picking up!

We had Zone training this Tuesday. It was in Lovell and lasted most of the day. It was very good though. I always learn a lot at Zone trainings. We were actually combined with the Wyoming South Zone as well this time so I got to see Elder McKee and a few other people I had previously served around! All in all it was a great meeting.

Wednesday night we had a great meeting with our Ward Mission Leader for the 3rd ward, Brother Taggart. He is the guy that works for the Best of the West! Anyway, we discussed a lot of things and made plans to get investigators and less active members to church! It is amazing what can be accomplished when you have a dedicated WML who makes sure the ward helps. Brother Taggart also gave Elder Griffith and I some sweet Best of the West hats! He is such a nice guy!

We had a couple of decent lessons this week but the best one was Friday night with C. We went and saw him at the funeral home. He wasn't busy so we went to the back and taught him The Plan of Salvation - It went great! He loved everything about it and felt very comfortable during the whole lesson. This Sunday he was the only one in gospel principles class so we gave a lesson on baptism. Everything was going great and I really wanted to ask him to be baptized but for some reason I couldn't. I knew by the spirit that for some reason he would say no or that he wasn't ready. So I asked him if there was anything that would be holding him back from being baptized. He said yes, but said he wasn't ready to share it yet. It was an awesome experience to really let the spirit direct the lesson!

We are supposed to be having a baptism for J. this Saturday but I'm not sure if he really is ready and understands why he is doing this. I feel he is getting baptized for his wife and doesn't understand the enduring to the end part of the gospel. I guess we will see what happens. Also K. is still doing great and is on track to be baptized in two weeks!! I think that is really it as far as investigators go.
We found out that we are getting another set of missionaries in Cody. We are almost positive they are sisters as well which kind of stinks. That means there will be five sets of Sisters and only three sets of Elders in our Zone! :/ President Hopkin who is a counselor in the mission presidency asked us if we had any particular feeling for a certain Ward so we told him that we would rather stay in the 3rd Ward and he agreed, so hopefully we will at least stay in the 3rd Ward.

  •  No shed hunting today? No, we are going next week!
  •  What are you going to do today for p-day? Chill, maybe play some soccer and go to some outdoor stores!
  • Have you had a chance to read those letters on my Great Great Grandpa...will you make copies for me when you borrow them - if it's allowed? I haven't yet we have been pretty busy and I am not allowed to copy them :(
  • I'm going to send your bday box this week...WOW the BIG 20! Anything in particular that you would like? A new pair of slippers or money to buy slippers. I wear slippers all the time and mine have kind of taken a dump and I want to get a nicer pair like mockisins. Maybe a sweet hunting shirt, or a Mindy Gledhill CD - haha. Her voice is amazing!
  •  Any pictures this week??? No I should have some more next week!

I think that is it for now. I hope you get feeling better mom!! Dad -  I hope you have a stress free week. It sounds like you guys had a great Stake Conference. I am kind of nervous for transfers in two weeks. I really want to stay here.
Well I love and appreciate you guys more than words can describe. I hope you guys have an awesome week!!!
Love,
Elder Richardson

AN ALRIGHT WEEK...

Hey Guys,

This week has been an alright one. Church yesterday was great and we had an awesome lesson with a guy named C. We got to see a couple dead bodies when we visited him at work this week at the funeral home - haha. Anyway, he is an awesome guy and is already thinking about baptism after our lesson yesterday! We had to push both our baptism dates for our other investigators back to the 8th and 15th. But I think they should both turn out! We got canceled on a lot this week which is a bummer :/

The ward members here are pretty awesome! They are all into hunting and fishing for the most part so we connect well! I really like the 3rd ward! The bishop for the 3rd ward is great and is so missionary minded!

We aren't going shed hunting this week but we are next week as of right now! Today we are going to the Buffalo Bill Museum which should be cool. I think we are also going to check out some outdoor stores or something.

I'm glad you had a good time at camp Dad! Just wish I could have been there. I don't think we have ever gone to a scout camp without each other. When I get back we are for sure teaching the archery merit badge together again- haha.

We were over at the other Elders apartment here in Cody last night and I got to talking with Elder Hayes, our district leader. I found out he just learned how to fly fish. He knows some guy that just bought a 500 acre ranch that has about 2 miles of the Yellowstone River on it! They are opening up a fly fishing lodge thing there!! He said when we get done with our missions he would take me up there! That was pretty exciting!

  • Have you had a chance to borrow and read the stories about my Great Great Grandfather yet? Not yet, I didn't see them at church yesterday.
  • So does that brother and sister that work there in the musueam count as a senior couple in your area? I guess technically but they aren't a part of the Montana Billings Mission.
  • Do you have any senior couples like Brother & Sister Shaw? Kind of. There are 4 senior couples working at the Murals building for like 3 months. They are super nice and one of them, The Durrants, fed us dinner one night. They are very nice but not the Shaws. One of the couples, the Windertons I think. are from heber and know Grandma and Grandpa! There is also a sister serving in Powell right now from heber.
  • Have you been able to keep in touch with anyone from Columbia Falls? I got an email from the Shaws last week and one from Chris 2 weeks ago.
I Love you guys tons!
Elder Richardson
P.S. I got your package and everything was fine! Thanks so much!!!!

Hey Dad,

I'm glad you had a good time at camp! It feels weird to look at the pictures and not be there! I can't wait to get back and go camping! How many boys went?

I'm pretty sure Nick Peppe plays for FC Tucson. Or at least he was on the roster before I left. It would be fun to go to one of their games!

I have decided you should sell your bow and buy a New Strother Wrath off Archery talk for cheap. I know you would shoot better with it! Just a thought! I miss shooting bows so muchhhhh!!!! So many people here have them and I just want to go and shoot with them!

By the way it is the BEST OF THE WEST, not Westerm Extreme - haha. They are 2 different shows. We are going to see if we can do some reloading or something for them! I don't know if they will let us they seem to like to keep to themselves.

We have a 2012 Ford Fusion and bikes. We have only used the bikes once because Cody is pretty small and we have had plenty of miles! And yes, I got a flat tire in C-Falls and had to buy a new tube because the old one basically exploded when I went up a curb!

Tell Jeremy when I get back I am going hunting with him! lol. Also see if you can con Jake Lindsey into taking me archery hunting when I get back  -haha!

HOPE YOU HAVE A GREAT WEEK!
